Diagnosing ADHD and ADD

Wondering if It's ADHD?

If you or your child struggles with focus, organization, or emotional regulation, you might be asking, “Is this ADHD?” You're not alone—and you're in the right place to find clarity, answers, and a path forward.

At the Center for Attention Deficit and Learning Disorders in Scottsdale, we specialize in helping children, teens, and adults understand whether ADD or ADHD is part of the picture—and what to do next.

Why an Accurate Diagnosis Matters

Whether you're seeking help for a child who’s having a hard time in school, or you're an adult who’s always felt a step behind, getting a proper diagnosis is the first step toward real solutions.

An ADHD evaluation can help you:

  • Understand what’s really going on beneath the surface
  • Discover your (or your child’s) unique strengths and challenges
  • Create a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan
  • Determine if medication is necessary—or explore drug-free options that may work just as well
  • Finally feel seen, heard, and supported

The First Step to Improving Your Life

Some people occasionally experience symptoms like inattention, forgetfulness, or restlessness—but these issues can also be caused by anxiety, learning challenges, or other medical conditions. That’s why a thorough, accurate assessment is so important.

At our clinic, we use a combination of traditional and advanced psychological tools to make sure you get answers you can trust. Our evaluations typically include:

A Comprehensive Review

  • A detailed review and analysis of symptoms
  • A look into both past and present behavioral patterns
  • Parent, teacher, or self-report ADD/ADHD rating scales

Psychological Testing

We use leading diagnostic tools to measure attention and executive functioning, including:

  • Conners' Continuous Performance Test, Third Edition (CPT-3)
  • Conners Continuous Auditory Test of Attention (CATA)
  • T.O.V.A.® (Test of Variables of Attention)
  • Gordon Diagnostic System

Brain Mapping (qEEG)

Quantitative EEG provides a visual map of brainwave activity, helping us better understand how your brain is functioning. It’s non-invasive and especially helpful for clients interested in neurofeedback or drug-free treatment options.

Exploring the Full Picture

When needed, we may include additional testing to identify learning disabilities, emotional concerns, or other co-occurring challenges that could be contributing to symptoms.

Our goal is to provide clarity—not just a label—and to guide you toward an individualized plan that works for your life.

A Drug-Free Path Is Possible

Many parents and adults come to us looking for alternatives to medication—or simply wanting to understand all their options. We respect that. Our clinic offers a full range of non-pharmaceutical, evidence-based solutions including:

  • Neurofeedback and brain training
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • Nutrition and lifestyle strategies
  • Executive function coaching

We believe treatment should support the whole person, not just the symptoms.

What Our Patients Say

We were desperate for help for our son, Peter. Everyday life was frustrating and sad for him, and he was struggling in his preschool class. Now that he uses EEG Biofeedback, Peter is a different child. He is thriving and 100% happier, and our family life is also much improved.
